Cheadle MP Mark Hunter has welcomed news that crime rates in Greater Manchester have dropped by 7.4% in the last year according to the Office for National Statistics (ONS).
Figures show crime against households is down by seven per cent across the country compared with the same time last year and has hit the lowest level since the ONS record began in 1981.
Crime rates have been lower since the Coalition Government was formed than during every single year of the previous Labour administration - it has also halved since hitting peak levels in 1995.
Commenting, Mark Hunter MP, said:
"The drop in the number of crimes is very welcome. It shows we are tackling crime more efficiently than at any time since 1981 and are providing better results for local residents as a consequence.
"People have the right to go about their daily lives without being scared of becoming victims of crime, and I salute the impressive job done by our local police officers and other agencies who are working hard to make our communities safer."
