Unemployment in Cheadle constituency halved since May 2010

Unemployment in Cheadle constituency has been halved since spring 2010.  In May of that year there were 1,144 economically active people aged 16 to 64 claiming unemployment benefits.  In December 2014 this number had fallen to 553 people, a rate of just 1.3%, a record low.

The total number of claimants is 38 lower than in November 2014 and 289 lower than a year before in December 2013.

Welcoming the continued fall in unemployment, local MP for Cheadle constituency, Mark Hunter, commented:

‘Cheadle constituency has one of the lowest rates of unemployment in the whole of the North West region, and it is encouraging that it continues to fall.  That the unemployment rate has been halved since 2010, and that local businesses are taking on more staff and that so many residents are working, is a sign that the Coalition Government’s economic strategy is moving the country in the right direction.

‘I will never be complacent when it comes to the local economy; it is my ambition that we reach a point that there are jobs for everyone that wants one in Cheadle constituency and these latest indicators are again positive.’
